ZOOM H5 имеет сменную микрофонную подсистему и совместим с линейкой микрофонных модулей для ZOOM H6. В комплектации с рекордером H5 идет стереофонический микрофонный модуль XY с антивибрационной подвеской, максимальный уровень звукового давления которого — 140 дБ.

Рекордер ZOOM H5 записывает сигнал не только со стереофонического микрофона, но и сигналы, которые подаются на 2 аналоговых входа. Итого, с этим рекордером доступно четыре канала. При помощи сменного модуля можно добавить еще два комбинированных входа XLR/TRS. Уровень сигнала с каждого источника регулируется независимо.
