General Power Tool Safety
Warnings

WARNING Read all safety warnings and all

instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and

instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or
serious injury.

Save all warnings and
instructions for future reference.

The term «power tool» in the warnings refers to your
mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated
(cordless) power tool.

Work area safety

1. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or
dark areas invite accidents.

2. Do not operate power tools in explosive

atmospheres, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools

create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

3. Keep children and bystanders away while
operating a power tool. Distractions can cause
you to lose control.

Electrical safety

4. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never
modify the plug in any way. Do not use any
adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power
tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will

reduce risk of electric shock.

5. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded

surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of

electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

GEA006-2

3

6. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet
conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electric shock.

7. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for

carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.
Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or
moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords

increase the risk of electric shock.

8. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an
extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use
of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk
of electric shock.

9. If operating a power tool in a damp location is

unavoidable, use a ground fault circuit
interrupter (GFCI) protected supply. Use of an

GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

10. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use
common sense when operating a power tool.
Do not use a power tool while you are tired or
under the influence of drugs, alcohol or
medication. A moment of inattention while

operating power tools may result in serious
personal injury.

11. Use personal protective equipment. Always
wear eye protection. Protective equipment such
as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or
hearing protection used for appropriate conditions
will reduce personal injuries.

12. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the

switch is in the off-position before connecting
to power source and/or battery pack, picking
up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools

with your finger on the switch or energising power
tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

13. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before
turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key
left attached to a rotating part of the power tool
may result in personal injury.

14. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and
balance at all times. This enables better control
of the power tool in unexpected situations.

15. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or

jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves
away from moving parts. Loose clothes,

jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving
parts.

16. If devices are provided for the connection of

dust extraction and collection facilities,
ensure these are connected and properly
used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-

related hazards.

Power tool use and care

17. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct
power tool for your application. The correct

power tool will do the job better and safer at the
rate for which it was designed.

18. Do not use the power tool if the switch does
not turn it on and off. Any power tool that
cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous
and must be repaired.

19. Disconnect the plug from the power source

and/or the battery pack from the power tool
before making any adjustments, changing
accessories, or storing power tools. Such

preventive safety measures reduce the risk of
starting the power tool accidentally.

20. Store idle power tools out of the reach of

children and do not allow persons unfamiliar
with the power tool or these instructions to
operate the power tool. Power tools are

dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

21.

Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment
or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts
and any other condition that may affect the
power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the
power tool repaired before use.

Many accidents

are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

22. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly
maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges
are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

23. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits

etc. in accordance with these instructions,
taking into account the working conditions
and the work to be performed. Use of the

power tool for operations different from those
intended could result in a hazardous situation.

Battery tool use and care

24. Recharge only with the charger specified by
the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for

one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire
when used with another battery pack.

25. Use power tools only with specifically
designated battery packs. Use of any other
battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.

26. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away

from other metal objects, like paper clips,
coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal
objects, that can make a connection from one
terminal to another. Shorting the battery

terminals together may cause burns or a fire.

27. Under abusive conditions, liquid may be

ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If
contact accidentally occurs, flush with water.
If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek
medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery

may cause irritation or burns.

4

Service

28. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified

repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that the

safety of the power tool is maintained.

29. Follow instruction for lubricating and

changing accessories.

30. Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and

grease.

GEB118-1

Cordless Chain saw safety
warnings:

1. Keep all parts of the body away from the saw

chain when the chain saw is operating. Before
you start the chain saw, make sure the saw
chain is not contacting anything. A moment of

inattention while operating chain saws may cause
entanglement of your clothing or body with the
saw chain.

2. When holding with both hands, always hold

the chain saw with your right hand on the rear
handle and your left hand on the front handle.

Holding the chain saw with a reversed hand
configuration increases the risk of personal injury
and should never be done.

3. Hold the power tool by insulated gripping

surfaces only, because the saw chain may
contact hidden wiring. Saw chains contacting a

«live» wire may make exposed metal parts of the
power tool «live» and could give the operator an
electric shock.

4. Wear safety glasses and hearing protection.

Further protective equipment for head, hands,
legs and feet is recommended. Adequate

protective clothing will reduce personal injury by
flying debris or accidental contact with the saw
chain.

5. Always keep proper footing. Slippery or
unstable surfaces may cause a loss of balance or
control of the chain saw.

6. When cutting a limb that is under tension be
alert for spring back. When the tension in the
wood fibers is released the spring loaded limb
may strike the operator and/or throw the chain
saw out of control.

7. Use extreme caution when cutting brush and
saplings. The slender material may catch the
saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull you
off balance.

8. Carry the chain saw by the front handle with

the chain saw switched off and away from
your body. When transporting or storing the
chain saw always fit the guide bar cover.

Proper handling of the chain saw will reduce the
likelihood of accidental contact with the moving
saw chain.

9. Follow instructions for lubricating, chain
tensioning and changing accessories.
Improperly tensioned or lubricated chain may
either break or increase the chance for kickback.

10. Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and
grease. Greasy, oily handles are slippery causing
loss of control.

11. Cut wood only. Do not use chain saw for

purposes not intended. For example: do not
use chain saw for cutting plastic, masonry or
non-wood building materials. Use of the chain

saw for operations different than intended could
result in a hazardous situation.

12. Causes and operator prevention of kickback:

Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the
guide bar touches an object, or when the wood
closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden
reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and
back towards the operator.
Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide
bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards
the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you to lose
control of the saw which could result in serious
personal injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the
safety devices built into your saw. As a chain saw
user, you should take several steps to keep your
cutting jobs free from accident or injury.
Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or
incorrect operating procedures or conditions and
can be avoided by taking proper precautions as
given below:

Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and

fingers encircling the chain saw handles,
with both hands on the saw and position
your body and arm to allow you to resist
kickback forces. Kickback forces can be

controlled by the operator, if proper
precautions are taken. Do not let go of the
chain saw.

014673

5

Do not overreach and do not cut above
shoulder height. This helps prevent

unintended tip contact and enables better
control of the chain saw in unexpected
situations.

Only use replacement bars and chains
specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect

replacement bars and chains may cause
chain breakage and/or kickback.

Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening
and maintenance instructions for the saw
chain. Decreasing the depth gauge height

can lead to increased kickback.

13. Before starting work, check that the chain saw is
in proper working order and that its condition
complies with the safety regulations. Check in
particular that:

The chain brake is working properly;

The run-down brake is working properly;

The bar and the sprocket cover are fitted

correctly;

The chain has been sharpened and tensioned

in accordance with the regulations;

14. Do not start the chain saw with the chain
cover being installed on it. Starting the chain
saw with the chain cover being installed on it may
cause the chain cover to thrown out forward
resulting in personal injury and damage to objects
around the operator.

Top handle chainsaw specific safety
warnings

1. This chain saw is designed especially for tree
care and surgery. The chain saw is intended to be
used by properly trained persons only. Observe
all instructions, procedures and recommendations
from the relevant professional organization.
Otherwise fatal accidents may occur. It is
recommend that always using a rising platform
(cherry picker, lift) for sawing in trees. Rappelling
techniques are extremely dangerous and require
special training. The operators must be trained to
become familiar with safety equipment usage and
climbing techniques. Always use the appropriate
belts, ropes and carabiners when working in trees.
Always use restraining equipment for both the
operator and the saw.

2. Perform cleaning and maintenance before
storage in accordance with the instruction manual.

3. Ensure safe positioning of the chain saw during
car transportation to avoid fuel or chain oil
leakage, damage to the tool and personal injury.

4. Regularly check the functionality of chain brake.

5. Do not fill the chain oil near fire. Never smoke
when you fill the chain oil.

6. National regulation may restrict the use of the
chain saw.

7. If the equipment gets heavy impact or fall, check
the condition before continuing work. Check the
controls and safety devices for malfunction. If
there is any damage or doubt, ask our authorized
service center for the inspection and repair.

8. Always activate the chain brake before starting
the chain saw.

9. Hold the saw firmly in place to avoid skating (skid
movement) or bouncing of the saw when starting
a cut.

10. At the end of the cut, be careful to keep your
balance due to the “drop”.

11. Take into account the direction and speed of the
wind. Avoid sawdust and chain oil mist.

Protective equipment

1. In order to avoid head, eye, hand or foot
injuries as well as to protect your hearing the
following protective equipment must be used
during operation of the chain saw:

The kind of clothing should be appropriate, i.
e. it should be tight-fitting but not be a
hindrance. Do not wear jewelry or clothing
which could become entangled with bushes
or shrubs. If you have long hair, always wear
a hairnet!

It is necessary to wear a protective helmet
whenever working with the chain saw. The
protective helmet is to be checked in
regular intervals for damage and is to be
replaced after 5 years at the latest. Use only
approved protective helmets.

The face shield of the protective helmet (or
the goggles) protects against sawdust and
wood chips. During operation of the chain
saw always wear a goggle or a face shield to
prevent eye injuries.

Wear adequate noise protection
equipment. (ear muffs, ear plugs, etc.)

The protective jacket consists of 22 layers
of nylon and protects the operator against
cuts. It is always to be worn when working
from elevated platforms (cherry pickers, lifts),
from platforms mounted on ladders or when
climbing with ropes.

The protective brace and bib overall is
made of a nylon fabric with 22 layers and
protects against cuts. We strongly
recommend its use.

Protective gloves made of thick leather are
part of the prescribed equipment and must
always be worn during operation of the chain
saw.

Makita DUC302 Chainsaw PDF User Guides and Manuals for Free Download: Found (9) Manuals for Makita DUC302 Device Model (Instruction Manual)

The Makita DUC302 is a remarkable cordless chainsaw that stands out in its category for both performance and usability. This model is designed for those who require a powerful, lightweight tool for cutting tasks around the home, garden, or job site. With its ergonomic design and advanced features, the DUC302 appeals to both professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike.

One of the key features of the Makita DUC302 is its impressive motor. The tool is powered by two 18V lithium-ion batteries that provide a combined power of 36V. This makes it incredibly efficient, allowing for longer run times and the ability to tackle tougher tasks without the need for frequent recharging. Additionally, the brushless motor enhances efficiency and extends the lifespan of the tool, making it a solid investment for long-term use.

When it comes to performance, the DUC302 does not disappoint. It can achieve a chain speed of 24 meters per second, meaning it effortlessly cuts through branches and logs. The 300mm bar length is perfect for a variety of cutting applications, from trimming trees to cutting firewood. Moreover, the saw features a tool-less chain tensioning system, making adjustments quick and easy, which is a significant advantage when you’re in the middle of a project.

In terms of safety and convenience, Makita designed this chainsaw with several user-friendly features. The automatic chain lubrication system ensures the chain runs smoothly, reducing wear and tear while prolonging the overall life of the tool. The electric brake is an added safety measure, stopping the chain almost instantly when the trigger is released. Additionally, the rubberized grips provide comfort and enhance control during operation, reducing fatigue during extended use.

Another notable aspect of the Makita DUC302 is its compact and lightweight design. Weighing in at just around 3.3 kg, operators can wield this chainsaw with ease. Its portability makes it ideal for climbing ladders or working in confined spaces without the encumbrance of cords or excessive weight. Users can appreciate the convenience of a battery-powered option, which provides freedom to work anywhere without needing access to an electrical outlet.

However, like any tool, the DUC302 does have some limitations. While it is perfect for light to medium-duty tasks, those needing to tackle larger or more extensive cutting jobs may find it necessary to consider a more heavy-duty model. Additionally, the runtime can vary based on the specific tasks undertaken, so it’s advisable to have extra batteries on hand for longer jobs.

In conclusion, the Makita DUC302 is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a reliable, efficient, and user-friendly cordless chainsaw. Its combination of power, safety features, and lightweight design makes it suitable for both casual users and serious landscapers. Here’s a quick recap of its notable features:

  • 36V power through dual 18V batteries
  • 24 m/s chain speed for fast cutting
  • Tool-less chain tensioning for quick adjustments
  • Automatic chain lubrication for smooth operation
  • Compact and lightweight at only 3.3 kg
  • Electric brake for enhanced safety

Overall, whether you are pruning trees or preparing firewood, the Makita DUC302 proves to be a formidable companion that delivers results efficiently and effectively.
