• Benutzen Sie das Gerät nur entsprechend seiner Bestimmung
laut Gebrauchsanweisung. Bei Zweckentfremdung erlischt
der Garantieanspruch.

• Das Gerät ist nicht für den kommerziellen Gebrauch bestimmt.

• Der Gebrauch dieses Thermometers ersetzt nicht die Konsultation eines Arztes.

• Personen und Thermometer sollten sich für mindestens 30
Minuten in gleich bleibender Umgebung befinden, bevor eine
Messung vorgenommen wird.

• Dieses Gerät ist nicht dafür bestimmt, durch Personen
(einschließlich Kinder) mit eingeschränkten physischen, sensorischen oder geistigen Fähigkeiten oder mangels Erfahrung
und/oder mangels Wissen benutzt zu werden, es sei denn, sie
werden durch eine für ihre Sicherheit zuständige Person
beaufsichtigt oder erhielten von ihr Anweisungen, wie das
Gerät zu benutzen ist.

• Kinder müssen beaufsichtigt werden, um sicherzustellen, dass
sie nicht mit dem Gerät spielen.

• Die Temperatur des Stirn- und Schläfenbereiches unterscheidet sich von der Körperkerntemperatur, die z. B. oral oder
rektal gemessen wird. Eine fiebrige Erkrankung kann im Frühstadium zu einem gefäßverengenden Effekt (Vasokonstriktion) führen, der die Haut abkühlt. In diesem Fall kann die mit
dem Thermometer FTN gemessene Temperatur außergewöhnlich niedrig sein. Wenn demzufolge ein Messergebnis
nicht mit dem Empfinden des Patienten übereinstimmt oder
ungewöhnlich niedrig ausfällt, wiederholen Sie die Messung
alle 15 Minuten. Zur Kontrolle können Sie auch eine Messung
der Körperkerntemperatur mit einem herkömmlichen Thermometer durchführen, das sich für die orale oder rektale
Messung eignet.

• In folgenden Fällen ist eine Kontrollmessung mit einem herkömmlichen Fieberthermometer empfehlenswert:

1. Wenn das Messergebnis überraschend niedrig ist,

2. Bei Neugeborenen innerhalb der ersten 100 Tage,

3. Bei Kindern unter drei Jahren, die ein gefährdetes Im-

munsystem haben oder bei Auftreten bzw. Nicht-Auftreten von Fieber bedenklich reagieren,

4. Wenn der Nutzer das Gerät zum ersten Mal verwendet

oder sich mit der richtigen Anwendung noch vertraut
macht.

• Die Hautoberfläche von Babies reagiert sehr schnell auf die
Umgebungstemperatur. Nehmen Sie deshalb keine Messung

mit dem Thermometer FTN während oder nach dem Stillen
vor, weil die Hauttemperatur dann niedriger als die Körperkerntemperatur sein kann.

• Im Falle von Störungen oder Beschädigungen reparieren Sie
das Gerät nicht selbst, da dadurch jeglicher Garantieanspruch

erlischt. Fragen Sie Ihren Fachhändler und lassen Sie Repara-

turen nur von autorisierten Servicestellen durchführen.

• Ein beschädigtes Gerät darf nicht benutzt werden.

• Öffnen Sie das Gerät nicht. Es enthält Kleinteile, die von Kindern verschluckt werden könnten.

• Benutzen Sie das Thermometer nicht in feuchter Umgebung.

• Legen Sie das Thermometer nicht ins Wasser oder in eine
andere Flüssigkeit. Es ist nicht wasserdicht.

• Für die Reinigung beachten Sie die Hinweise unter 4.1 Reini-
gung und Pflege.

• Schütteln und klopfen Sie das Thermometer nicht. Lassen Sie
es nicht fallen.

• Schützen Sie das Gerät vor direkter Sonneneinstrahlung,
extrem hohen oder niedrigen Temperaturen, Verunreinigungen und Staub.

• Wenn Sie beabsichtigen, das Gerät längere Zeit nicht zu benutzen, entfernen Sie die Batterien.

empfehlen wir Ihnen, die nachstehenden Hinweise zum
Gebrauch und zur Pflege sorgfältig zu lesen.

2.1 Lieferumfang und Verpackung

Bitte prüfen Sie zunächst, ob das Gerät vollständig ist und keinerlei Beschädigung aufweist. Im Zweifelsfalle nehmen Sie das
Gerät nicht in Betrieb und senden Sie es an eine Servicestelle.

Zum Lieferumfang gehören:

• 1 MEDISANA Infrarot-Thermometer FTN

• 2 Batterien 1,5 V (Typ LR03, AAA) (bereits eingelegt!)

• 1 Aufbewahrungsbox

• 1 Gebrauchsanweisung

Verpackungen sind wiederverwendbar oder können dem Rohstoffkreislauf zurückgeführt werden. Bitte entsorgen Sie nicht
mehr benötigtes Verpackungsmaterial ordnungsgemäß. Sollten
Sie beim Auspacken einen Transportschaden bemerken, setzen
Sie sich bitte sofort mit Ihrem Händler in Verbindung.

gelangen! Es besteht Erstickungsgefahr!

2.2 Wissenswertes zur Temperaturmessung
mit

dem Infrarot-Thermometer FTN

Was ist Fieber?

Unsere normale Körpertemperatur liegt zwischen 36 °C und
37,5 °C. Je nach Tageszeit und körperlicher Befindlichkeit, z.B.
im Monatszyklus einer Frau, sind Schwankungen ganz normal.
Steigt aber die Körpertemperatur über 38 °C an, spricht man
von Fieber.
Fieber tritt häufig bei Infektionen auf und ist ein Zeichen dafür,
dass die Immunabwehr des Körpers verstärkt arbeitet. Diese
natürliche Reaktion des Körpers auf äußere Krankheitserreger
sollte im Verlauf regelmäßig kontrolliert werden. Wenn das
Fieber über 39 °C ansteigt und auch nach 1 bis 2 Tagen nicht
wieder sinkt, suchen Sie unbedingt den Arzt auf.
Eine fiebrige Erkrankung ist häufig mit Müdigkeit, Gliederschmerzen, Frösteln und Schüttelfrost verbunden. Der Krankheitsverlauf lässt sich am besten kontrollieren, wenn Sie 2 bis 3
mal täglich im Abstand von 4 bis 6 Stunden Fieber messen.
Die Messung sollte immer am selben Platz und an der selben

Mit dem MEDISANA Infrarot-Thermometer FTN ist eine präzise
berührungslose Messung (ca. 5 cm Abstand) der Körpertemperatur möglich. Die Messung wird über der Augenbraue, im Verlauf zwischen Stirn und Schläfe, vorgenommen. Dabei wird der
Wert der von dort abgestrahlten Energie gemessen und in einen
Temperaturwert umgewandelt. Das Messergebnis wird innerhalb 1 Sekunde angezeigt. So kann z.B. die Temperatur von
Babies gemessen werden, ohne sie im Schlaf zu stören.

Eine neue, in diesem Gerät angewendete, Infrarot-Sensor-Technologie ermöglicht zudem die Auswahl, das Messergebnis so
darzustellen, als sei die Temperatur oral, rektal oder axillar
gemessen worden.

Zusatzfunktion

Außer zur Messung der Körpertemperatur, kann das InfrarotThermometer FTN von MEDISANA auch zur Messung einer
Objekttemperatur (z.B. Umgebungstemperatur, Flüssigkeiten,
Oberflächen) verwendet werden. Eine Messung in dieser Funktion ist im Bereich von 0 bis 100 ˚Celsius möglich.

3 Anwendung

3.1 Inbetriebnahme

Batterien entnehmen/einlegen

Die Batterien sind bereits im MEDISANA Infrarot-Thermometer
FTN eingelegt. Sollte jedoch nach einer gewissen Betriebsdauer

das Batteriesymbol in der LCD-Anzeige erscheinen, müssen zwei
neue 1,5 V-Batterien (Typ LR03, AAA) eingesetzt werden.

Entnehmen:

Lösen Sie die Schraube am unteren Ende des Batteriefachdeckels
und nehmen Sie den Deckel ab. Entfernen Sie die Batterien.

Einlegen:

Legen Sie zwei neue 1,5 V-Batterien (Typ LR03, AAA) ein.

Vor dem Gebrauch

• Anpassung des Gerätes an die Raumtemperatur:

Um eine genaue Messung der Körpertemperatur vornehmen zu
können, muss sich zuvor der Körper der Temperatur des
Raumes, in dem die Messung vorgenommen werden soll, anpassen. Das gilt auch für das Infrarot-Thermometer FTN. Es passt
sich, wenn ein Standortwechsel vorgenommen wird, der neuen
Umgebung automatisch an. Für die Angleichung der Eigentemperatur des Thermometers an die Raumtemperatur benötigt das
Gerät eine gewisse Zeitspanne. Diese ist vom Höhenunterschied
der beiden Temperaturen abhängig und kann bis zu mehr als
30 Minuten dauern. Nur, wenn dieser Prozess des TemperaturAusgleichs abgeschlossen ist, können präzise Messergebnisse
erzielt werden.

Fieber-Thermometer gemessen werden. Sie haben die Auswahl

Gehen Sie folgendermaßen vor:

4 Verschiedenes

4.1 Reinigung und Pflege

•

Der Sensor ist das empfindlichste Teil des MEDISANA Infrarot-
Thermometers FTN. Schützen Sie ihn vor Verschmutzungen
oder Beschädigungen. Reinigen Sie den Sensor mit einem in
warmes Wasser oder 70 %igen Isopropyl-Alkohol getauchtes
Wattestäbchen.

• Legen Sie das Thermometer nicht ins Wasser oder in eine

andere Flüssigkeit. Es ist nicht wasserdicht.

• Für die Reinigung des Thermometers verwenden Sie ein

weiches Tuch, das mit einer milden Seifenlauge oder 70
%igem Isopropyl-Alkohol leicht befeuchtet ist. In das Gerät
darf kein Wasser eindringen! Benutzen Sie das Gerät erst
wieder, wenn es völlig trocken ist.

• Verwenden Sie nie aggressive Reinigungsmittel, Verdünner,

Benzin oder starke Bürsten.

• Achten Sie daraf, dass die Linse des Sensors, das Display und

das Gehäuse nicht verkratzt werden.

• Lagern oder verwenden Sie das Gerät nicht in einer Umge-

bung mit zu hoher oder zu niedriger Temperatur (siehe Betriebsbedingungen im Kapitel „Technische Daten“) und Luftfeuchtigkeit, im Sonnenlicht, in Verbindung mit elektrischem
Strom oder an einem staubigen Ort.

• Nehmen Sie die Batterien aus dem Gerät, wenn Sie es länge-

re Zeit nicht benutzen möchten. Es besteht sonst die Gefahr,
dass die Batterien auslaufen.

• Wird das Thermometer gemäß dieser Gebrauchsanweisung

benutzt, so ist keine regelmäßige Wartung oder Kalibrierung
notwendig.

4.2 Hinweis zur Entsorgung

Dieses Gerät darf nicht zusammen mit dem Hausmüll entsorgt werden.
Jeder Verbraucher ist verpflichtet, alle elektrischen
oder elektronischen Geräte, egal, ob sie Schadstoffe enthalten oder nicht, bei einer Sammelstelle

einer umweltschonenden Entsorgung zugeführt werden können.

• The temperature in the forehead and temple area differs from
the internal temperature, which is taken orally or rectally.
Vasoconstriction, an effect which constricts the blood vessels
and cools the skin, can occur during the early stages of a fever.
In this case, the temperature measured by the FTN
thermometer may be unusually low. If the measurement
therefore does not match the patient’s own perception or is
unusually low, repeat the measurement every 15 minutes. As
a reference, you can also measure the internal body
temperature using a conventional oral or rectal thermometer.

• A control measurement using a conventional thermometer is
recommended in the following cases:

1. If the reading is surprisingly low

2. For new-born infants up to 100 days old

3. For children under three years of age who have a

weakened immune system or who react unusually in the
presence or absence of fever

4. If you are using the thermometer for the first time or want

to familiarise yourself with it

• Babies’ skin reacts very quickly to the ambient temperature.
Therefore, do not take their temperature with the FTN
thermometer during or after breastfeeding, because the skin
temperature may then be lower than the internal body
temperature.

• If a fault occurs or the unit is damaged, do not attempt to
repair the unit yourself, as this will void the warranty. Contact
your dealer and only have repairs carried out by authorized

2.2 Useful information on taking
temperature with the FTO infrared
clinical thermometer

What is fever?

Our normal body temperature is between 36 °C and 37,5 °C.
Fluctuations are quite normal, depending on time of day and the
body’s condition, for example in the female menstruation cycle.
However, when body temperature rises above 38 °C, the
phenomenon is known as fever.
Fever often occurs in the case of infections, and is a sign that
the body’s immune system is working overtime. This perfectly
normal reaction to foreign bodies, germs and microorganisms
should be checked at regular intervals. If the fever should exceed
39° C and not fall again within 1 to 2 days, you should definitely contact your doctor.
A fever is often associated with fatigue, pains in the limbs,
shivering and chills. The course of an illness can be best monitored by taking a temperature reading 2 to 3 times a day at 4 to
6 hour intervals. Always take the temperature at the same place
and on the same part of the body. If you have to take the temperature several days in succession, always do it at approximately the same time of day so that the results are comparable.

Taking a temperature reading –
quickly and accurately!

The MEDISANA FTN infrared clinical thermometer allows precise,
contact-free measurement of body temperature (at a distance of
approximately 5 cm). The temperature is taken above the
eyebrow between the forehead and the temple. The value of the
energy radiated there is measured and converted to a temperature value. The reading is displayed within 1 second. This
enables you, for example, to take babies’ temperature without
disturbing their sleep.

The new infrared sensor technology used in the device also allows
the temperature to be displayed as if it were taken orally, rectally
or from the underarm.

Additional function

Apart from measuring body temperature, the FTN infrared
thermometer from MEDISANA can also be used to measure the
temperature of objects (e.g. fluids, surfaces, ambient temperature). The temperature range for this function is between 0 and
100 ˚Celsius.

3 Operation

3.1 Getting started

Removing / inserting batteries

The MEDISANA FTN infrared thermometer comes with the
batteries installed. However, if the battery symbol appears in the
LC display after a certain period of use, you must replace them
with two new 1.5 V batteries (LR03, AAA).

Removal:

Undo the screw at the bottom of the battery compartment cover
and take the cover off. Take out the batteries.

Insertion:

Put in two new 1.5 V batteries (LR03, AAA).

Before use

• Acclimatise the thermometer to the temperature
of the room

For an accurate reading of a patient’s temperature, their body
must first acclimatise to the temperature of the room where the
measurement will be made. The same applies to the FTN infrared
thermometer. When taken somewhere else, it automatically
adjusts itself to the new environment. The thermometer takes a
certain amount of time to equalise its own temperature to that of
the room. This depends on the difference between the two
temperatures and can take more than 30 minutes. Precise
readings can only be taken once this process is completed.

7. Now move the thermometer smoothly over the patient’s

eyebrow from the forehead to the temple to measure the
maximum temperature. While the sensor scans this area, you
will hear slow beeps at first. As soon as the thermometer
measures higher temperatures, the beeps speed up. The
sequence of beeps then slows down to indicate that the
maximum temperature has been recorded.

8. As soon as this happens, release the START button

— If the reading is at or above the fever level, you will hear 10
short beeps, and the backlight of the display will be red to
indicate that the patient may have a fever.

The temperature in the forehead and temple area differs from the internal temperature, which is taken orally or rectally.Vasoconstriction, an effect which constricts the blood vessels and cools the skin, can occur during the early stages of a fever.In this case, the temperature measured by this thermometer may be unusually low. If the measurement therefore does not match the patient’s own perception or is unusually low, repeat the measurement every 15 minutes. As a reference, you can also measure the internal body temperature using a conventional oral or rectal thermometer.
A control measurement using a conventional thermometer is recommended in the following cases:
- If the reading is surprisingly low
- For new-born infants up to 100 days old
- For children under three years of age who have a weakened immune system or who react unusually in the presence or absence of fever
- If you are using the thermometer for the first time or want to familiarise yourself with it
Babies’ skin reacts very quickly to the ambient temperature. Therefore, do not take their temperature with this thermometer during or after breastfeeding, because the skin temperature may then be lower than the internal body temperature.
If a fault occurs or the unit is damaged, do not attempt to repair the unit yourself, as this will void the warranty. Contact your dealer and only have repairs carried out by authorized service partners.

The FTN thermometer displays its readings as a reference to temperatures taken using conventional thermometers. You can choose between oral (in the mouth), axillary (under the armpit) and rectal (in the anus).1. Switch on the device using the ON/OFF button 3. The selector switch 7 is in the fever measurement position / body mode (top / ). The set reference location is displayed by a corresponding flashing symbol, (mouth), (armpit)and (anus).2. Error messages

Cleaning and maintenance

The sensor 2 is the most delicate part of the device. Protect it from dirt and damage. Clean the sensor with a cotton bud dipped in warm water or 70% isopropyl alcohol.
Do not immerse the thermometer in water or any other liquid. It is not watertight.
To clean the thermometer, use a soft cloth slightly dampened with mild soapy water or 70% isopropyl alcohol. Do not let water get into the unit. Only use the unit again when completely dry.
Never use aggressive cleaning agents, thinners, benzine or tough brushes.
Take care not to scratch the lens of the sensor, the display or the housing.
Do not use or store the unit in an environment where the ambient temperature or humidity is too high or too low (see operating conditions in the “Technical specifications” section), in direct sunshine, in the vicinity of static electricity or in a dusty environment.
Remove the batteries if you do not wish to use the unit for an extended period of time. Otherwise there is a danger that the batteries may leak.
If the thermometer is used as described in these instructions, no regular maintenance or calibration is required.

DisposalThis product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste. All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commercial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner. Please remove the battery before disposing of the device/unit. Do not dispose of old batteries with your household waste, but at a battery collection station at a recycling site or in a shop. Consult your municipal authority or your supplier for information about disposal.

Warranty and repair terms

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is. The following warranty terms apply:

The warranty period for medisana products is three years from date of purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.
Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge within the warranty period.
Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the unit or for the replacement parts.

A battery in my thermometer has started to corrode. Is the device still safe to use?

The product can still be used safely after proper cleaning. Remove the battery with gloves and clean the battery compartment with a toothbrush and vinegar. After drying, new batteries can be inserted into the device.
